  1. When I researched Canadian symbols I found things like animals such as: beavers, Canadian geese, and moose. I also found several times a maple leaf.

  2. One thing I found when I researched "great Canadian ceremonies" was the Canadian citizenship ceremony. I also infferred that this ceremony is for imigrants because I am a Canadian citizen and I haven't got a Canadian citizenship ceremony.

  9. The goal I chose was to end poverty and hunger. I chose this goal because food has nutrients that help people to be energetic and ready to go. If they don't have that they will be exhausted, pale and won't be able to concentrate in school or work as they will be too tired and hungry to work if they don't get enough food. Some people can grow food but you also need to be able to buy food. So ending poverty is important because if you are poor, you can't buy food and lots of other things.

I find this economic because people need money to buy food, and they need jobs to get money.

I find this political because children and adults have a right to eat and somewhere to be home. Governments can help to make jobs, or to give people who can't work support by raising money.

I find this social because all people should be able to have food, water and shelter no matter what culture or religion.

This is physical in how it is part of landscape as some people may be able to grow food depending on where they live.

  11. A very important symbol is the national flag. It's important to Canada because it represents our country. Also, the maple leaf is very important to Canada first of all because it is our floral emblem and second of all, when Prime
Minister Lester B. Pearson was young, he saw most battalions going into war with a maple leaf on their flag and 50 years later he became prime minister and declared it our floral emblem. It was probably on the flags because they're are tons and tons of maple leaf trees in Canada. It relates to PEPS because the maple leaf tells a bit about the physical region of Canada and the position prime minister is political and since he was elected that tells a bit about Canada's
    political tale. Eric 5:)

  12. Some major Canadian ceremonies are: Canada Day (July 1) and Canada Flag Day (February 15). Canada Day is important to Canada because a number of years ago Canada was born. Canada Flag Day is important to Canada because a number of years ago the Canadian flag was declared our official national flag. It's related to PEPS because the government decided when the flag was going to be official so it’s political. Eric 5:)

  13. Some buildings that are significant to Canadians are: The Peace Tower, the Parliament Buildings and the CN Tower. The Peace tower is significant (another word for important) because senators meet inside a chamber in the tower and the senators are part of the federal government. The parliament buildings are important because in the parliament buildings they talk about decisions for our country and that building is in the capital of Canada (Ottawa) and that makes it even more important. The CN Tower is important because it's the tallest free standing structure in the WORLD! I think that
makes it pretty important and where I live, I live pretty far from the CN Tower but I can easily see it. It's also so tall that it has to have lights on the tower so planes don't fly into it. It relates to PEPS because the government is political and the CN Tower is social because tons of people go there when it's open. Eric 5:)

  14. Some important political figures in Canada are the prime minister (Stephen Harper) (federal), the Premier of Ontario (Dalton McGuinty) (provincial) and the premiers of the other provinces/territories and the mayor of Toronto (Rob Ford) (municipal) and the other mayors of the cities in Canada. They're important because they make decisions on what happens in their rule of the country. They relate to PEPS because these people/positions are part of government and the government is political. Eric 5 :)

  18. I agree with Becky. I agree with her that the peace tower is a building significant to Canadians. This building is related to PEPS because it is a building related to Remembrance Day and that is a national ceremony. The peace tower would be related to the political section of PEPS because national ceremonies are organized by the federal level of government. This also relates to political figures significant to our country because people like Stephen Harper are part of the federal level of government.

  20. Buildings that are significant to Canadians - ROGERS CENTRE (because the Blue Jays play games there), THE AIR CANADA CENTRE (because the Maple Leafs and the Raptors play games there) and THE CN TOWER (because it is very tall, it use to be the world's tallest free standing structure). FORT YORK is significant to Toronto because it was the start of the city.
    DEclan -.-zzz

  21. Political Figures that are significant to our country - LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR JOHN GRAVES SIMCOE is significant to our country because he built FORT YORK to protect Canada from America and control Lake Ontario. Fort York became the city of York which then became Toronto.
    DEclan -.-zzz

  22. Political Figures that are significant to our country - PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU was the 15th Prime Minister of Canada. He was the Prime Minister when my mom moved to Canada. Trudeau helped to keep Canada together when Quebec wanted to be its own country. Trudeau was the Liberal Party leader.

  23. I reaserched the background of the canadian flag and it would be political because the goverment maybe has to choose the way they want it colored and what logo they should.

  25. We have the Parliament buildings in Ottawa, which is where the Prime Minister is, with all the other people involved in making parliament work smoothly. The Parliament Buildings relate the political section of PEPS because they are where the Prime Minister does work, and he is a politician, which relates to political from PEPS. It relates to economic because they probably handle our money from taxes, which involves money, which, of course, is economic. The Parliament Buildings relate to Physical of PEPS because it is a landmark, and so is part of the physical land. Lastly, the Parliament buildings relate to Social of PEPS because the prime minister declares special holidays where we get time off, sort of like today, which I guess is a celebration. Aurora :(

  26. My thoughts for the national citizen question (Week #9) is WOW! Also, some people remembered about the Peace Tower from our Rememberance Day booklets from November 2010! I think the most important Canadian celebration is Canada Day (which is on July 1st) because about 143 years ago (from 2010 to 1867 because Canada Day hasn't happened yet in 2011), Canada was just founded. In that same year we had our first prime minister named Sir John A Macdonald. There is a book about him called "The Rascal Who Built Canada" and it's in Room 301 if anyone wants to read it. Eric 5
