Look through the newspaper and find an article with a global/national focus.
You will need to post 2-3 comments this week:
On the blog:
1. Why is it a global issue?
2. Why did you choose this article and what connections did you make to the article.
1. Respond to someone else post
2. Make a connection
3. Similarities and differences
The article I picked is called "Shooter didn't pause at all". This is a global issue because all around the world there is alot of crime and killing. Gabrielle Gifords was taking pictures with families and people and then out of no where this normal looking guy comes with a gun and shoots her in the head. This takes place in Tucson. I chose this article because it reminds me of a time when I was little there was a story of a famous guy that was killed and the shooter didnt pause or warn the audience and say put your hands in the air or anything.
ReplyDeleteLisette
My artical is called Southern Sudan begins vote for freedom. This is a global issue because Sudan is not in Canada and is somewhere else around the world. I chose this artical because it reminded me of other countries that still don't have freedom and children around the age of 5 - 15 working in dangerous jobs. Also, it reminded me of how I am trying to make a change in the world by meeting with all these wonderful students and 2 great teachers about twice a week to help make a difference. CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteMy article is called dozens killed in Iran jetliner crash .This is a global issue because Iran is not in Canada it is in the middle east. I choose this article because we were looking for global issues and in the title it said Iran so i knew it wasn’t in Canada. It reminded me of Haiti 1 year ago because something bad happened to them and something bad happened to Haiti.
ReplyDeleteSarah :0)
Clara you made a very nice connection with your article. My article that I chose focuses on a Global issue. It is called "Dozens Killed In Iran Jetliner Crash".I chose this article because;as soon as I read the title it made me feel interested, and very concern about the situation. How I can relate to this article:well,it was an old plane that was built with many different parts from different countries, and maybe those parts take different types of fuel. That is probably why the plane crashed.(71 killed)(failure to control the plane, very unclear)Aretha to:
ReplyDeleteThe article I chose is called “America peers into its soul.” It is a global issues because it is about an assassination in America. I chose this article because I heard about this shooting on the news and I was interested in knowing about how Gabriella Giffords of the Democratic party survived a bullet through her head. She was shot for being a Democratic candidate in Tousan Arizona which is mostly Republican. No one has the right to shoot her because she is stating her opinion. Jacob
ReplyDeleteThe article I chose was; "Dozens Killed In Iran Jetliner Crash". I chose it because it was the first article with a coloured photo i . :) I think it is a global issue because, first, it took place in Iran, and second, because it involves many different countries such as America, Germany and more! Those other countries are involved for selling parts of that jetliner to Iran. The plane type was an old type of "Boeing" I've flown in a modernized Boeing.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth >:)
My article is a global issue because it is not happening and has to do with a different country.
ReplyDeleteAde!!!!!!!!!!$$$$$$$$
My article ic called Succes Amid the Ruins of Haiti.I chose this article because a man in Haiti with a family had his house Cleaved in two, devastated they had to move to a new refugee camp, but at that camp the man was given a paying job, temporary shelters, and HE was able to pay for his children to go to school and not his aunt. All the shelters are built and managed by the Irish Aid group. This is a global issue because Haiti is in need of global help due to the natural disaster. :)Noah
ReplyDeleteThe article I chose was;"Dozens Killed in Iran Jetliner crash". I chose this article because I saw "71 pepole were killed and others badly injured".Firstly it is a global issue because it was in the "World" section in the news, secondly it took place in another country,Iran. The other countries sold parts of that old Jetliner to Iran. Henry
ReplyDeleteI think that the artical "Dozens killed in Iran jetliner crash" is a global isue because the planes parts were all made in different countries, which means that the plane was built wrong because of the parts, and since the articl said that the plane did not explode the fuel must have leeked out on its flight, which means that the fuel most have landed every were they flew over.I picked this artical because I watched the news once and it said a plane crashed because of bad parts.
ReplyDeleteJacky$_$
The article "Iran Jetliner Crash" contained a global issue because many plane have the same cause of problems. Poor matenance, this happens because airlines like money more than safty therefor they end up with more crashes. The fuel tanks on the doomed 727 were not properly maintained there for fuel leaked out causing te planes engines to stop running. Because it was snowing it lowered visibility levels therefor the pilot was not able to make a sucessful landing and crashed the plane killing 71 instantly and wounding many. The crash of this iran air is just a hint of the many crashes caused by poor matenance.
ReplyDeleteI chose this aryicle because it is very important to show how bad the airline system is interms of safty. My connection to this global issue is that I work for a virtual airline, and i don't want to say "Passengers Brace For Impact" Those are my connections to the Iran Air crash.
William
The article I chose was "Woman drowned crossing submerged causeway". I think that the article I chose is a global issue because it could affect people across the globe and happened in a different country. For example if the woman who drowned had relatives or friends in Canada, or US, or any other country it would affect them too. Also, if you had a flight to Australia that you had booked and paid for before the flooding, only to find that you can't go on your flight because of the floods it would affect you too.
ReplyDeleteI chose this article because a few days earlier I was looking for flights to Australia for March break, so I was interested to read about the floods, because it could disrupt my idea of going there.
The connection I can make to this text is that one time, when I was at my friend's cottage, and my parents had gone inside for a second, telling me not to go past the marker in the water because then I would be in very deep water. I (of course,) was not paying attention as I was swimming in the shallow water, and stepped right off a rock into 43 feet of water! I thought for about five seconds that I was going to drown too. Also, I remember one time when there was a tsunami right where my mom's best friend was staying for vacation, and they announced the survivor's names, and her name was on the list.
Aurora
I can connect to Sarah's artical beccause when dozens are killed, it makes me think of Hati and how schools are having teams to help make the world a better place. It also makes me think of my trip to WE Day because it was so powerful to see so many people believe in change and that we are NOT ALONE!! CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteMy article is called “The Horror of Sudan”. I know this is on a global issue because in the aricle it mentioned about the longest civil war in Africa. I know that Africa is not in Canada because Africa is one of the seven continents. It also mentioned about the president of Sudan (Omaral-Bashir)like it mentioned the president of Sudan not Canada.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to this article because it reminds me of all the countries who don’t have freedom and gets really stern punishments. It also reminds me of all the children who has to do work at a very young age.
SABRINA
I agree with you Jacob because no one has the right to shoot a bullet into her head. Just because she was trying to state her opinion. She is trying to help America not destroy it. Gabriella has the right be healthy and alive.
ReplyDeleteSarah
My article is called "Global warming here to stay". This is a global issue because the tittle says global so it had to be a global issue and it effects every where on earth. I chose this article because it says that Carbon dioxides cause global warming for centuries so that caught my eye. I can connect to this because our class worked on an article about whales and how they get sun burns, and the article states that the whales sun burns from U.V. rays that come from the broken ozone layer. So our class inferred that the ozone layer must be breaking by carbon dioxides.
ReplyDeleteKevin
Connecting to Jacky's comment I could connect because I once watch a show were it show many crashes so I'm not that shocked that this would happen. But the similarities to this is that usually planes around the world are built with much more sturdy than old planes like the german lupdwapt, which was a war plane, but anyways that to happen would be quite different reaction than it would back in World War II. The difference is that I have never ridden on a plane before so I wouldn't know if the plane seemed even sturdy enough.
ReplyDeleteKevin
i picked this artical because a woman in chile drowned because an accedent
ReplyDeleteThe article I choose was "Success amid the ruins of Haiti.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is that that they are trying to help people re-build peoples houses so they wouldn't have to leave in tents and they are going to build them new houses that hopefully wouldn't get the destroyed like there other house in the 2010 earth quake.
I choose this article because I heard about the earth quake last year and I was wondering if they would ever re-build the house.
- abi
:0)
I could relate this article to the shooting that also happened in Tucson about this 9 year old that was shoot while watching something about politics and she was so into it and others were also killed and they said that many others were wounded so I think that that article relates to what your talking about Lisette.
ReplyDeleteAbi:)
My article is called “The Horror of Sudan”.
SABRINA
I can connect to Sarah's article because it reminds me of all the innocent people that died in the unexpected earthquake in Haiti it is just like that plane crush the parts were built from different countries. As many of the people that read this article said the plane parts were made from different countries so the problem is unclear. SABRINA :OI
ReplyDeleteI can connect to Jacob's article. When I read an article like that, I remember all the people that are not afraid to stand up even if there alone and to fight for what they have to say. One example is Martin Luther king J.r who fought for equal rights no matter what colour your skin is, if your fat or small or what culture you come from. Also, I can relate this to the Rights of a Child because one right rhat it states is to be treated fairly. Also, in room 301, we have a poem thathas a very strong message to it which I think is to not tease others because we are all the same on the inside. CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteThe article I chose was U.S. confronts toxic politics after rampage. This is a global issue because the shooting was in the U.S. and not in Canada. The article was about how a man tried to assassinate Gabrielle Giffords.
ReplyDeleteTommy
My article and Henry’s article are similar because a lot of people died in both articles.
ReplyDeleteTommy
I'm going to tell you about by newspaper article. This issue is about a man known as mr Witby was arrested even though he didn't commite a crime. But also someone was talking about a stolen struck and the police probably thought it was mr witby who did it
ReplyDeleteThe artical I choose was"shooters did not pause at all" I know this is global issue because it takes place in Tucson. the artical is about a ladey named Gabrielle Giffords and she has been shoot in the head and still survived I can connect to this article because one time there was school and these people were shooting outside of the school.
ReplyDeleteNIYA:]
I agree with William’s article because I don’t think Iran has very good maintenance and safety on its planes. I also agree with the others who thought this was a global issue because the parts of the plane were made in different countries. Jacob
ReplyDeleteThe article I choose was "Success amid the ruins of Haiti''.People are trying to help victims of last years massive earthquake in Haiti build temporary homes. The issue of this is that they have to wait about a month for their hoses to be built whitch means they have to sleep in tents.
ReplyDeleteEmily :)
I can connect to Aurora's comment beacause have cousins and family members all over the world. If someone in veitnam tat was in my family died that would be a global issue because i am related to that problem.
ReplyDeleteAnthony.G O.o
Clara I liked how you described on how it was a global issue but just because something is not in Canada. Doesn’t mean that it is a global issue because . A global issue is when something that happened in another part in the world that put an impact on other countries . Oh and another thing is that I liked how you explained how kids/teens from 5 to 15 worked dangerous jobs and how you want to help and support them.
ReplyDeleteKevin's comment was very true because global warming will be a thing that we will need to overcome in the near future. My post about the Iran air crash relates to this because the planes that we are flying in right now could have built in the 80' or 90'. As most of us know older jets pollute a lot and are more likely to end up in a crash site. My comment and Kevin's comment are related because planes air gas guzzling monsters but nobody cares because it's so convenient, therefore nobody cares if it harms the environment is being damaged.
ReplyDeleteI choose the article ''Success amid the ruins of Haiti'' because I think it just looked interesting and because I heard about the earthquake last year and I wanted to know how far they have came since then.
ReplyDeleteEmily =D
A connection that could be made is that my post and Aurora's comments are similar and different in one way because Auroras and my articles are the same "Woman drowns crossing submerged causeway". Me and Aurora me and Aurora and me both mentioned transportation through flight. its different because when she said about the decrease of money over the flood. jr
ReplyDeleteemily i think you should add more information like who built the houses or how many people are in need for houses things like that. vincent :D
ReplyDeleteI think this is a global issue because it has an impact on other countries. I chose this article because I wondered on how the siblings of the citezens would feel about the flood, imagine on how the siblings would feel that their daughter has been drownded along with their children. What person in what world would want to here that. A connection that I can make is that when I was 4 I went to Cuba and there unfortunatly was a tsunamy wave and like this article thousands of people died. jr
ReplyDeleteMy issue that I picked is a global issue because the problem that happened to haiti was a huge deal so many people died and so many people lost their homes and thats were my artical comes in its about people buildings homes for their family and for other people and also making anough money to support their familys ,bing able to send their children to school and last of all to feed their own familysso this is a global issue.
ReplyDeleteI can connect to William's article about the airplane crash because since I hear about plane crashes all the time, I used to be really paranoid about flying and was sure that to get on a plane would lead to the imminent crash. I read the manual on what to do in event of a plane crash so many times it made me even more paranoid, and I definitely would not want to hear the captain saying "Passengers brace for impact".
ReplyDeleteAurora
The article I read was "Success amid the ruins of Haiti" It's a global issue because the earthquake has distruped so many houses and stores and lives. Now Jasmin Boyer is a changed man, because he is being paid $12 dollars a day to build houses and shelters, for the people that are still living in tents and camps. Boyer now has enough money to have a home of his own and has enough money to give his kids a good education. I think that this a global issue because people all around thw world shold help all the people in Haiti in their time of need!
ReplyDeleteNina :)
This comment is for Abigail,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your comment on the article about Haiti. I liked how you started it off. It got me really interested, I kept reading it with lots of interest because I thought I would get more information on Haiti. But then I didn't get to learn any more information about the interesting article.
The only comment I have on your entry is that I think you should of used more puncuation marks such as periods or commas because your whole pharagraph was one sentence. And that I would like to learn more about the situation in Haiti.
Talia :o)
I agree with Jacob comment because"NO ONE has the right to shoot someone in the head just to make an opinion"
ReplyDeleteNIYA:]
Yeah Abi thats the one I was talking about and I was scared when this happened.
ReplyDelete-Lisette
I agree with you Talia about Abigail's comment. It had a very nice entry by introducing the issue in the article that you chose. There are lots of great information mentioned about whats going on in Haiti, but still as Talia said I think you should tell a little more information on your article.
ReplyDelete(!GREAT JOB Abigail!) Aretha;o)
I agree with Jacob and Niya. No one has the right to shoot someone in the head because they are stating thier opinion. Whether you dissagree or agree with what he/she is saying, it is their opinion. Also, I can make a text to media connection because I saw a tv show showing that a person was unsure about what he wanted to do because he was afraid that his friends might do the oppisite of him. Lastly, in my classroom ( room 301 ), we have a poster near the door that says, " Stand up for what is right, even if you're standing alone." CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteGreat comment Nina! you pretty much did alot of typing, My global issue is about a stolen truck and an inasant man getting arrested. This is a global issue because robing things is quite a serious issue and so is getting arrested.
ReplyDeleteSolah
P.S. you can post a comment by tomorrow.
The article I chose is called "Foreign workers worried as Japan tightens rules". I chose this article because it had the word FOREIGN in the tittle. When I read that one word I knew right away that it was about a global issue. The article is about nurses that want to become nurses in Japan. But the only way they could become a nurse in Japan was if they completed a test that was all in Japanese. In the article it says this: "The exam," he said, "is to make sure that the foreigners will fail. It also says that the test is so hard that only three out of six hundred nurses have passed since 2007.
ReplyDeleteI found this fact very interesting!!!!
Talia :o)
My article is called "Success amid the ruins of Haiti". What happened to Haiti is a global issue because I think that even if a natural disaster happens in 1 part of the world, it can affect people all around the world too. Lots of people want to donate money and/or time to help out, for example, my mom's a nurse, and her colleague went over to Haiti to share her medical skills. This article shows that some of the people are getting help and have a better life than they did a year ago because they are getting jobs and places to live.
ReplyDeleteKatie :o)
William what is the name of your article? I would also like to know more about your article!!
ReplyDeleteIf you could please tell more about it!
Nina :o)
Katie I really liked your comment, but I was hoping that you would mention a little more information about your article.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really liked your connection that you made.It really fits in with your article.
Aretha80)
That's pritty cool Noah, can you tell us more about the natural disasters and how much did he work and how much he worked for.
ReplyDeleteJacky
The article i chose to read was "Dozens Killed in Iran Jetliner crash". I chose this article because it was in the global section. 71 people were killed and others were seriously hurt. The pilot was not able to make a good landing. Different countries sold parts of that old Jetliner to Iran.
ReplyDeleteAlessandro :)
I think the article “Quake rattles nerves but no one injured” is a global issue because this quake just happened in Chile and they just had a conflict with the miners, and know there is quake that makes another scary issue. I chose this article because It was a in the world section and when I read it sound interesting and I wanted to know more. I also knew that they had the miner’s conflict and know I am wondering why Chile is always having a major conflict? Siraya 8)
ReplyDeleteI too like the connection you made Katie it was really good. I also read "Success amid the ruins of Haiti" on Sunday and Aretha it is about people who are trying to help victims from last years earthquake that left people homeless in Haiti so they hadmake homes to live in so they were living in tents and have been waiting for theire houses to be rebuilt. And this is a big issue.
ReplyDeleteLisette<3
Wow elisabeth, that was very very detailed. My newspaper article was about a stolen truck and an inocent man getting arrested. I think this a global issue because this happened in the usa.
ReplyDeletesolah
Well Vincent you said that you wanted to know more about who built the houses and how many people are in need of a house right now, right?
ReplyDeleteWell I'm really not sure how many people are building the houses or who is building them.In the article it only mentions one person who builds the houses and thats Jasmin Boyer.Right now ,the American manager Bob Fiddes is offering to build 700 temporary shelters for families who are in need for a home.About 525 families chose to go to a refugee camp because they had no where else to go.
Emily :D
The Article i chose was called success amid the ruins of Haiti a man named Jasmin Boyer that had enough money to send his kids to school. even though Jasmin Boyer didn't have enough money to build all the house that broke down because of the earthquake he took a micro credit loan to build the houses and elementary schools and he still had enough money to to send he kids to school and for food etc. jahkeem
ReplyDeleteI really liked what Abigail said on her article about allot of people died and and and they still had enough money to send their kids to school.
ReplyDeleteJahkeem :0)$$
I can connect to Jahkeem's artical. This is like how all our parents treat us. They try to do the best they can for us even if they have to make a sacrfice. They want us to be very healthy and kind to everyone around us. I think that we have to treat them with respect too because they do it to us and so we should help them too. CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteHaving parents that love you so much and cares about the most important things that goes through life;Those are the parents that everyone deserves.Our parents always try the best they can;to get us the best child care,they make sure we are safe,stay healthy(e.t.c)like Clara said.Aretha:o}
ReplyDeleteThe article I picked is called "Woman drowns crossing submerged causeway"and I think this is a global issue because Australia (where this issue happened)is a part of the world and I think every country in the world are equal no country is better then the other and I also think that if one country has a problem we should all help so this is way I think this is a global issue. Jennifer 308
ReplyDeleteI chooses this article because I have a friend who moved to Australia and when I saw the word Australia I wonder what is happening in Australia.
ReplyDeleteMy connection to this article is my friend in Australia.
Jennifer 308
Jennifer I agree with you.We are all equal,we should care for each other and help one another. In fact;having a situation like that could be very hard and challenging to solve. That's the part when everyone who are most likely involved should get together and make a better decision for there selves and for others.Aretha;o)
ReplyDeleteKatie, Your comment is very clear and you wrote down some very interesting things. and seemed very serious. There has been so many disasters in Haiti, I liked your example about your mom being a nurse and her friend went to Haiti to help. And you are right, lots of people trying to help all Haitians. The reason I liked your example is because it is interesting that someone we would know would go to Haiti and see the disaster first hand. I would like to be able to help the people who were injured and orphaned. Solah
ReplyDeleteI see a connection between the comments that the people who read "Success amid the ruins of Haiti" all of us talk about people in haiti and how many people died and the people that had the lovely opportunity to live thru this horible earthquake these people are now homeless and living in tents. This might be out of the subject about the connections I found but I think that those people who are alive in Haiti must be so sad but at the same time happy and I think they are sad because they don't have all the things to live properly and everything and probably they dont have clean sources like water and stuff. On the other hand I think they are happy or should be happy because so many people died and out of all those people they could have died but no they lived they got a second chance that is a miracle.
ReplyDeleteLisette
Ms. Rambaran I am wondering why my other comment isn't posted. It was about how I thought that Clara and Arethas' comment was really good and that I agree with them because every parent loves their child so much and they are always trying to do what is best for their child.
ReplyDeleteLisette
I argree with Aretha and Jennifer. I think that everyone should be thinking that all countries are equal. No country is better than the other no matter what. And that if a country is in a bad situation that the other countries should help. Because the way I look at the world is that they all are neighbours. I know that if one of my neighbours were sick or have an injury that causes them not to be able to get up, I would either help them in their home or buy their grosseries and not worrie about getting the money back.
ReplyDeleteI related the issue to my life and what I would do if one of my neighbours were injured.
I think the way I related or compared them to the article really worked.
Talia :o)
I agree with Jennifer.Every person is equal to each other &no person is better than the next.I also agree that if one country is in trouble every other country should try to help.Like the Haiti situation.Haiti needs help, people there are sad or suffering.
ReplyDeleteNOAH$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The resine I picked this article "Success amid the ruins of Haiti'' is because the picture was of a family that had no home and it also showed that their homes were not very nice for example looking a these houses you could see inside of the homes and they were all made out of dry wall that made me think that everytime you want something or that it's not good enough for you just think of the kids and people in the world such as haiti as an example think of what they go through so next time that happens say to yourself: what about the kids how have more problems to deal with so my situation is not so bad.
ReplyDeleteThe Article I chose is called “Some Glaciers Advance”.
ReplyDeleteI found this article interesting because it had a picture of the glaciers, I liked this because most articles do not have pictures attached to them. Mainly this article is about how the worlds glaciers are depleting. This is caused by the amount of plastic waste that us, as humans are throwing away the affects of this is the fact that in a few years the glaciers are going to melt away. Air pollution is by far the most harmful pollution. The effects of this not only pollutes the environment but pollutes us as humans too by throwing cigarettes on the floor it puts children at risk of getting pneumonia and other types of diseases that effects our lungs and air tubes. Overall, I think that humans should step up there game when it comes to the environment.
Natasha :)
i think Jacob made a great point when he said you cant shoot someone for stating there opinion, also this reminds me of when the president of the u.s.a John F Kennedy got shot because he was a presidant and he was very involved in politicts.
ReplyDeleteAde!$
I agree with Jenifer. No country is better than an other. This reminds me of people. Some people might think that they are better because they have the latest things or they think that they are the smartest person in the class but it is not like that. It matters that you are trying your best and giving everything that you can possibly give but while being happy and healthy and not being grumpy. CLARA :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ade and Jacob because it is so true everyone has the right to state their oppinion. This reminds me of "The Rights of A Child" because in article (12) it talks about a child having the rights not only to speak but to also give their oppinion on something. I think that this right is applied not only to children but to everyone in general. Ade and Jacob made a really nice point " You can't shoot someone for stating there opinion" because thats not fair. I also really like the connection you made Ade about John F Kennedy.
ReplyDeleteLisette
I liked what you said Ade.I can make a connection to that because,in room 308 we have been making connections to Dr.Martin Luther King message e.t.c.and your comment reminded me of the time when Dr.Martin Luther king told his dream to try and make a difference and to make a better place,but somebody didn't like that idea,so he got shoot just for fighting for freedom and standing up for his rights!..Aretha:o}
ReplyDeleteI personally have not read the article “Some Glaciers Advance” but from what you wrote Natasha you got me interested and I will read it tonight because it seems really interesting and I love how you talk about the glaciers depleting and that it is caused by the amount of plastic waste that us humans are throwing away and the effect of this is that soon these glaciers are going to melt away. This really made me think about how it will be damaged and how we can try to reduce the amount of plastic waste.
ReplyDeleteLisette
Noah, when you were talking about the Haiti situation, you mentioned that people there are sad or suffering; but that's not entirely true. Maybe they were a year ago, but in the article I read, "Success amid the ruins of Haiti" it was talking about Haitians getting jobs and places to live. I'm sure there are some Haitians who still need help, but it sounds as if some are better off now then they were.
ReplyDeleteKatie :o)
The article I choose was Success amid the ruins of Haiti.I thought it was a Global issue because all over the world there are many different natural disasters happening and most of them cause suffering from most of the people.
ReplyDeleteTiffany
